I agree with za. Many atheists/agnostics don’t end up getting married, then when the relationship breaks up years later, that doesn’t get counted as a divorce, whereas if they’d been Christian, they would have gotten married before moving in together, and then gotten divorced later. In other words, your statistics do not reflect the actual “break-up” ratio of long term relationships that you are looking for.
I’m not justifying Christians getting divorced, believe me. But, I’m just explaining the reason for the statistics.
whether they get divorced or not is between them and God. the problem is that it says specifically in the bible that God HATES divorce so i would think that he would help keep a relationship together if allowed.
Such Christians have higher expectations of what kind of “bliss” marriage would bring, and lower tolerance for compromise in general.
Combine this with an insane practise of not comparing sexual compatibility until after the union, and you’ve set yourself up for failure from the get go.
The surprising thing is how many of them are willing to stick it out in loveless, incompatible relationships because they think their imaginary friend will disapprove if they stop making each other miserable.
The primary problem facing the world today is not the high rate of christian marriage, but the very idea of homosexual marriage. If they got married, the overall divorce rate might go down, and christians would look even more hypocritical than they do now.
Why do people believe that christians are supposed to be perfect when they are not? There are people in church because they are not perfect. They are there to see how great their sins are and how much they should depend on God for everything. They are in church because they are hurt.
IF you had the answer you would have given it. YOU DON’T.
And, really, any sane person would see that people whose marriage fails or are failing certainly know better than anyone “about the state of marriage in society. ” My dog can see that.
I don’t know. But it would be difficult to extrapolate or extend those statistics to indicate the existence or non existence of God.
I dont believe that….its very possible that atheists dont even get married so its a crazy comparison and this isnt stats here anyway…

I suspect they can’t stand each other! They also have a corner on the market for sexual repression. The combination cannot make for a healthy relationship.

I think it makes sense. They need like 5 or 6 marriages every decade or so, and they want to make sure the gay people don’t use up all the marriage licenses.
Eventually their wives get sick & tired of being so darned submissive – because it’s *not* in the fun way.

Actually my experience is that the divorce rate is rather lower than average.
Atheists are the smallest group around. Of course they are going to have less divorces. They have the least marriages.
